I, Tony Maleedy, recently received an email from a customer asking why there were four organic oils in the Juniper Conditioner. Would one not have done the same job?

But actually, the different oils serve multiple purposes in the conditioner. Firstly, they help moisturise the hair and, secondly, to protect it from damage.

Hair in good condition has a natural moisture content within the internal fibres (called the ‘cortex’) of approximately 10%. Hair becomes dry and brittle when the moisture content within the cortex is reduced, sometimes dramatically so, which leads to the hair losing its elasticity and strength to the point where it splits and breaks.

Why are there so many oils in the Juniper Conditioner?

To correct this problem and improve the condition and appearance of the hair, it is crucial to increase the moisture. This is what happens when you use a conditioner.

Moisture penetrates into the hair’s cortical fibres, BUT it would also largely escape back out of these fibres if there were no oils in the conditioner. The Juniper Conditioner places an ultra-fine layer of oils onto the surface of your hair and these oils help trap the moisture within the hair’s internal fibres. This greatly increases the hair’s strength and elasticity.

The second way it improves your hair, is by helping to protect it from damage. The conditioner smooths and flattens the cuticle scales on the surface of your hair. When hair scales open, the moisture inside your hair can escape faster, making it even drier and harder to manage.

The oils in the Juniper Conditioner very gently cover the cuticle scales on the surface of your hair compressing it and leaving it smoother and less vulnerable to damage from heat, styling products or adverse weather conditions.

The oils:

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is one of the lighter oils and excellent for improving the ‘spreadability’ of the conditioner over the hair. It also helps to increase the shine on the hair.

Almond Oil

Almond oil is richer than Avocado and full of nutrients.  It also has natural anti-oxidant properties which is good for the skin and can be useful for the hair.

Olive Oil

Olive oil contains many of the same components as sebum, the natural oil of the skin, because of this it has excellent effects on the skin and hair as the body is ‘programmed’ to utilise these materials very efficiently.

Coconut Oil

This is a special oil because, unlike almost every other vegetable oil, its molecules are very small. This means it has the ability to penetrate deeper into the skin and hair than other oils and its effects can be much greater. In the Juniper Conditioner it penetrates quite deeply into the hair to have light, but highly effective moisturising effects.

When all these organic oils are combined with moisturising juniper berry extract, wheat amino acids and glycerine, the effect on your hair is excellent and unlike so many other conditioners, only a little of the product is needed with each wash to keep your hair in wonderful condition.
